Which Pathway Is Right for You?
Choosing between Standard Care and the Fast Track Package often comes down to your preferred pace, budget planning, and how quickly you would like diagnostic clarity.
- You prefer spreading appointments over time
- You would like to stage costs across multiple visits
- You are comfortable building the assessment progressively
Fast Track may suit you if:
- You would like a consolidated, structured process
- You require a comprehensive written report for your GP
- You prefer to complete assessment and formulation within a shorter timeframe
Understanding Medicare & the Safety Net
In addition to standard Medicare rebates for eligible psychiatric consultations, patients may also benefit from the Medicare Safety Net [Link: https://www.health.gov.au/topics/medicare/about/safety-nets?language=en#original-
medicare-safety-net-omsn].
1. Original Medicare Safety Net (OMSN)
Once your annual out-of-pocket costs for out-of-hospital Medicare services reach the OMSN threshold ($594.40), Medicare increases the rebate to 100% of the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee for eligible services.
2. Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) After reaching the higher EMSN threshold within a calendar year, Medicare reimburses up to 80% of your out-of-pocket costs for eligible services (up to the EMSN cap for each item). For 2026, the EMSN thresholds are:
- $861.20 for people who have a concession card or get Family Tax Benefit Part A
- $2,699.10 for others.
- A Pensioner Concession Card
- Health Care Card
- Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
- Or are registered as a Family Tax Benefit Part A family
What This Means for Your Assessment
Because ADHD/ASD assessments involve multiple psychiatrist consultations, some patients — particularly those completing the Fast Track package or those with ongoing follow-up throughout the year — may reach the Safety Net threshold. If this occurs:- Subsequent eligible consultations within that calendar year may attract higher Medicare rebates
- Your overall out-of-pocket costs may be reduced
